We are extremely proud to announce that Novu’s Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is now part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Diabetes Prevention Recognition Program (DPRP). Acronyms aside, the DPRP was created to recognize wellness programs that have shown they can effectively deliver a proven healthy lifestyles program (in-person, virtually, or via distance learning) to prevent type 2 diabetes.
The DPRP has three key objectives:
- To assure program quality standards, fidelity to scientific evidence, and broad use of effective type 2 diabetes prevention lifestyle interventions throughout the United States.
- To develop and maintain a registry of organizations that are recognized for their ability to deliver effective type 2 diabetes prevention lifestyle interventions to people at high risk.
- To provide technical assistance to local type 2 diabetes prevention programs to assist staff in effective program delivery and in problem solving to achieve and maintain recognition status.
While Novu is pending full recognition, we are now a recognized resource for those fighting diabetes. Novu’s DPP provides proven lifestyle changes for our members and has significant impacts on the businesses of our clients. The program combines a traditional diabetes prevention protocol with a new consumer toolset and digital engagement strategy to enhance outcomes. Online and phone-based coaching, wearable device integration, community engagement and rewards for support take diabetes prevention to the next level.
In a previous pilot with a large national health plan, Novu’s DPP was proven to outperform traditional, human capital-intensive models. The successful pilot enabled a targeted group of health plan members to achieve a 7.8% average weight reduction, more than 150 minutes of physical activity a week, and more than 90% participation in weekly telephonic coaching session. More than 80% of participants met their 5% weight loss goal.
